Accounting Consultant / Interim Controller
An interim Controller opportunity with a private equity-backed medical device manufacturer in San Diego, focused on strengthening accounting operations and building scalable processes across a complex, multi-entity environment.
This interim Controller position sits within a private equity-backed medical device manufacturing organisation undergoing significant growth and transformation. The role partners closely with executive leadership to bring structure and rigour to accounting operations, with a particular focus on improving close processes, strengthening financial controls, and optimising ERP utilisation.
The successful candidate will oversee the full accounting function, including month-end close, financial reporting, consolidations, treasury, payroll, AR/AP, and balance sheet management. Additional responsibilities include ensuring debt covenant compliance, supporting audit and tax activities, and evaluating and developing the existing accounting team.
- Lead month-end close, account reconciliations, consolidations, and financial reporting
- Manage treasury activities, payroll, AR/AP, and balance sheet oversight
- Drive accounting process improvements and optimise ERP system utilisation
- Ensure debt covenant compliance and support audit and tax functions
- Partner with leadership to evaluate team talent and implement best practices
- Build scalable accounting infrastructure to support ongoing organisational growth
- 7+ years of accounting leadership experience in manufacturing, industrial, or medical device environments
- CPA preferred
- Strong background in multi-entity accounting, consolidations, inventory accounting, standard costing, and variance analysis
- Experience in private equity-backed organisations and with audit processes
- Demonstrated ability to improve close processes, strengthen financial controls, and optimise ERP systems
- Experience leading accounting teams through periods of change and transformation
