Interim HR Director, Labor & Employee Relations
An interim HR Director role leading employee and labour relations for a large healthcare system, covering collective bargaining, complex investigations, employment law compliance, and executive coaching.
This interim HR Director engagement calls for both strategic and hands-on leadership across employee and labour relations for a health system of over 2,900 staff. The role covers collective bargaining, employment law, workplace investigations, conflict resolution, executive coaching, policy and change management, risk management, and turning ER/LR data into actionable organisational outcomes. Housing, a vehicle, and two paid return weekends per month are included.
The organisation operates in a complex, heavily regulated healthcare environment with a multi-site, union-represented workforce. The successful candidate will need deep familiarity with federal and state employment law including NLRA, FMLA, ADA, FLSA, and Title VII, and must be comfortable consulting directly with physicians and senior clinical leaders on high-risk matters.
- Lead employee and labour relations strategy across a multi-site health system workforce
- Manage complex workplace investigations involving discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and workplace violence
- Oversee collective bargaining processes and maintain productive union-management relationships
- Provide executive coaching and consultation to senior clinical and operational leaders
- Ensure compliance with federal and state employment laws across the organisation
- Analyse ER/LR data to identify systemic workforce issues and drive organisational action
- Bachelor's degree in HR, Business Administration, Industrial/Labour Relations, or a related field (Master's preferred)
- 8 to 12 or more years of progressive HR experience, with at least 5 years focused on employee and labour relations
- Healthcare or similarly regulated, complex environment experience strongly preferred
- Significant union and labour relations experience
- SHRM-SCP, SPHR, or equivalent certification preferred
- Demonstrated ability to influence senior executives and manage high-risk employee relations matters
