Fractional Human Resources Director

GRO Advisory is assembling the GRO Collective, launching Q1 2027, a curated bench of experienced fractional functional leaders placed into client businesses on an ongoing, project or interim basis. Fractional HR Directors in the Collective are matched to engagements based on experience, availability and fit, and work within GRO's Guide-Ramp-Optimise methodology. Engagements span founder-led businesses establishing HR infrastructure for the first time, PE-backed companies professionalising ahead of growth, and organisations requiring senior HR leadership without a full-time commitment.

Scope and time commitment vary by engagement. Members are independent contractors, not GRO employees, and are expected to represent GRO standards throughout each assignment. Acceptance into the Collective does not guarantee a minimum number of hours or a specific volume of work. Compensation is agreed individually per engagement.

• Build and maintain HR infrastructure including policies, handbooks and compliance processes
• Lead recruiting, onboarding, offboarding and frontline workforce hiring and retention programmes
• Oversee performance management, compensation support and HRIS selection and administration
• Manage employee relations, investigations and coordination with employment counsel
• Coach managers and implement employee engagement and development initiatives
• Lead change management and post-acquisition people integration, including policy and benefits alignment

• Seven or more years of progressive HR experience, including at least three years in a Manager or Director capacity with meaningful ownership of the HR function
• Demonstrated track record of independently building or improving HR infrastructure, not only administering existing systems
• Strong communication and judgement, with confidence working directly alongside founders, CEOs and senior leadership
• Experience in founder-led, PE-backed, franchise, multi-unit or consumer services environments, particularly with hourly or multi-location workforces
• Comfortable using modern technology and AI tools to improve documentation, processes and reporting
• Prior fractional, interim or project-based HR experience is advantageous
