Interim Finance Director - Trading

Global Accounting Network is partnering exclusively with a leading energy trading and supply business to place an Interim Finance Director for a period of significant complexity and change. The role requires immediate, hands-on leadership across financial control, reporting, technical accounting and commercial finance, with a mandate to bring pace and clarity to inherited issues and restore confidence in the numbers.

The successful candidate will work directly with the CEO, Board and Group stakeholders, translating the financial implications of trading operations, retail activities and power purchase agreements across profitability, cash flow, collateral and returns. This is a high-profile, demanding engagement suited to a finance leader who has operated at CFO or FD level within energy trading or a similarly complex trading environment.

• Lead financial control across the energy trading and supply business, ensuring reporting is accurate and delivered to a high standard.
• Act as a rigorous commercial partner to the CEO, providing fast analysis and clear recommendations.
• Interrogate reconciliations, estimates and inherited financial reporting issues, identifying and resolving problems.
• Provide technical accounting leadership across IFRS 9, IFRS 13 and IFRS 15, covering derivatives, hedging and complex valuations.
• Liaise with external auditors, confidently challenging and defending technical accounting positions.
• Translate complex trading and PPA data into actionable insights on profit, cash flow, collateral requirements and returns for the Board and Group.

• Prior experience operating at CFO, Finance Director or VP Finance level within energy trading, energy supply or a similarly complex trading environment.
• Deep technical expertise across IFRS 9, IFRS 13 and IFRS 15, including derivatives, hedging and valuation methodologies.
• Demonstrated ability to take control of a finance function and improve the quality and reliability of its reporting.
• Strong commercial understanding of energy trading, retail and PPA structures and their financial impact.
• Credibility and confidence to engage directly with CEOs, Boards, Group stakeholders and external auditors.
• Hands-on leadership style with the capacity to engage at detail level while maintaining strategic oversight.
