Interim Deputy Director, Strategy, Planning & Management, HIV/TB Delivery

This 9-month interim position sits within the Gates Foundation's joint TB/HIV Program Strategy Team, providing senior leadership across strategy, operations, financial management, and people functions for the TB and HIV Delivery team. The role holds dual reporting lines to the Director of TB and HIV Delivery and the Director of Strategy and Implementation Management ARO.

Beyond the core delivery team, the position anchors the Foundation's infectious disease eradication priorities within the Integrated Africa Business Team, and maintains active collaboration with colleagues across Seattle, India, China, and other regions to align planning, harmonise strategies, and foster coordinated global action. The successful candidate brings deep expertise in portfolio management, strategic planning, and investment decision-making within complex, matrixed organisations.

• Lead annual strategic planning processes, articulating priorities in collaboration with R&D counterparts and ensuring alignment with the Africa Business Team and global partners.
• Oversee the strategic, financial, operational, and human resource aspects of the TB and HIV Delivery team, including budget development and grant pipeline management.
• Serve as a core advisor on data-driven investment decisions, complementing the scientific expertise of Program Officers with strategic and financial acumen.
• Manage overall rhythm of business, meeting structures, succession planning, team health, and workforce planning in partnership with the Director.
• Lead or co-lead complex cross-functional strategic projects, including design of analytical models to define and track strategy metrics and targets.
• Shape and strengthen the Integrated Africa Business Team, anchoring TB/HIV delivery within broader regional infectious disease priorities and facilitating cross-disease learning.

• Demonstrated senior leadership experience in strategy, planning, and operations within large, complex organisations, ideally in global health or development.
• Strong background in portfolio and financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, and grant pipeline oversight.
• Experience managing and developing teams of business and operations professionals in a matrixed environment.
• Proven ability to synthesise data and metrics into clear strategic narratives for senior stakeholders and investment decisions.
• Comfort operating across multiple geographies and time zones, with experience coordinating across Africa, Asia, and North America preferred.
• Familiarity with infectious disease programs, including HIV, TB, or related global health priorities, is an advantage.
