Fractional CTO (Client-Facing / Senior Software Engineer)

Alpus Consulting LLC is seeking an experienced fractional CTO to support client-facing technical leadership across a range of engagements. Working alongside the internal CTO, you will engage directly with founders, executives, and engineering teams to define product direction, validate solution architecture, and keep delivery on track. The role spans discovery through launch, with a focus on translating business goals into clear technical strategies.

This is a senior, high-trust position representing Alpus Consulting at an executive level. You will manage stakeholder communications, facilitate trade-off decisions, produce concise documentation, and identify opportunities to expand client value. Availability for US time zone calls is required, with a typical commitment of two to five hours per week depending on client load.

• Lead client-facing technical strategy sessions including discovery, roadmap, and executive stakeholder calls
• Define and validate product direction by clarifying goals, scope, constraints, success metrics, and risks
• Shape solution architecture and delivery approach, including stack recommendations, build-vs-buy decisions, and scalability trade-offs
• Guide engineering teams in setting implementation plans, delivery milestones, and execution priorities
• Facilitate trade-off decisions with non-technical stakeholders and maintain clear documentation of actions and decisions
• Identify expansion opportunities across performance, analytics, AI, mobile, and security, supporting pre-sales when appropriate

• 5+ years in senior engineering and/or technical leadership roles such as Tech Lead, Architect, Head of Engineering, VP Engineering, or CTO
• Strong command of modern software delivery across web, mobile, APIs, cloud infrastructure, data, and AI
• Excellent spoken and written English with confidence leading executive conversations with US clients
• Demonstrated ability to bridge business and engineering perspectives and align diverse stakeholders
• Highly organised and reliable, with a track record of closing loops and keeping teams aligned remotely
• Comfortable operating independently in a fully remote environment with minimal oversight
