Part-Time Controller (Hybrid, Portland)

This part-time Controller position sits within a small, collaborative organisation and reports alongside the CFO and Staff Accountant. The successful candidate will take ownership of month-end close oversight, review journal entries and reconciliations, and lead an upcoming transition to QuickBooks including structuring a clear and effective chart of accounts.

Beyond day-to-day accounting tasks, the role involves partnering with the CFO on higher-level financial projects, identifying process improvement opportunities, and ensuring financial reporting and compliance are consistently accurate. The flexible schedule of roughly 7 to 15 hours per week suits an experienced accounting professional seeking meaningful part-time engagement with a smaller organisation, including small business or nonprofit environments.

• Oversee and support the month-end close process, ensuring timely and accurate completion
• Review journal entries, reconciliations, and related month-end accounting activity
• Lead the transition to QuickBooks and establish an accurate, logical chart of accounts
• Partner with the CFO on higher-level accounting and financial reporting projects
• Provide guidance and day-to-day support to the Staff Accountant
• Review existing accounting processes and identify opportunities for improved efficiency and accuracy

• Prior experience as a Controller, Accounting Manager, or in a comparable senior accounting role
• Strong hands-on month-end close and reconciliation experience
• Proficiency with QuickBooks required
• Experience working within small business and/or nonprofit environments
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with senior finance stakeholders
• Strong organisational, problem-solving, and communication skills
