Controller (Part Time)

Maven Baseball Lab is an Atlanta-based sports tech startup combining 3D motion capture, computer vision, and proprietary algorithms to deliver personalised performance insights to athletes. As the company's first dedicated finance hire, the fractional Controller will own the general ledger, run a disciplined monthly close, and build the financial models used by leadership and the Board. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the role carries broad responsibility across bookkeeping, payroll oversight, partner billing, and financial reporting.

The position suits an experienced finance professional seeking a reduced schedule. The Controller will help establish scalable processes and internal controls as Maven grows into new markets and sports. Approximately 10 to 20 hours per week, with a flexible schedule.

• Own the general ledger and execute a timely monthly close, including reconciliations, accruals, prepaid and deferred revenue, and fixed asset depreciation.
• Manage billing and collections across lab partner agreements, assessment revenue, and app subscriptions.
• Calculate revenue shares, commissions, and contractor payments under partner and independent contractor agreements.
• Oversee payroll, benefits, and 1099 processing in conjunction with external providers.
• Prepare monthly financial statements and Board-ready reports with clear variance commentary.
• Build and maintain the company's financial model, covering the annual budget, cash flow and runway forecasts, lab unit economics, and pricing scenarios.

• Demonstrated experience in startup finance with hands-on accounting responsibilities.
• Proficiency in financial modelling, including cash flow, runway, and unit economics analysis.
• Experience managing a full monthly close process: reconciliations, accruals, and deferred revenue.
• Familiarity with payroll processing and 1099 compliance via external providers.
• Ability to prepare Board-ready financial reports with clear variance commentary.
• Comfort working autonomously as a first finance hire, setting up processes from the ground up.
