A fractional Controller engaged on a contract, remote basis to oversee accounting and financial control functions for a biotech company, covering month-end close, financial reporting, and compliance.
This contract role sits within the finance function of a clinical-stage pharmaceutical company and carries responsibility for core accounting operations on a part-time basis. Day-to-day work covers general ledger management, journal entry review, and timely month-end and quarter-end close processes. The Controller will also prepare and review financial statements, contribute to budgeting and forecasting cycles, and help maintain internal controls in line with GAAP requirements.
The role requires close collaboration with finance leadership, external auditors, and cross-functional teams to support reporting obligations and process improvements. There is also a strategic dimension: identifying financial risks, recommending efficiency enhancements, and providing insights to support the company's continued growth.
- Manage general ledger activities and review journal entries to ensure accuracy and completeness
- Lead month-end and quarter-end close processes, delivering timely and accurate results
- Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with GAAP standards
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis activities
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and compliance procedures
- Collaborate with finance leadership, external auditors, and cross-functional teams on reporting and process improvements
- Demonstrated experience in general ledger management, financial reporting, and month-end close processes
- Strong knowledge of internal controls, accounting policies, and GAAP compliance
- Proficiency with ERP systems, spreadsheets, and financial reporting tools
- Experience in a Controller, Senior Accountant, or comparable finance leadership role
- Ability to work independently in a fractional or contract capacity and manage competing priorities
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA or equivalent certification preferred. Biotech or pharmaceutical experience is an advantage
