An early-stage biotech focused on psychiatry and substance use disorders is seeking a fractional CMO to help build external credibility ahead of its next funding milestone. The role centres on refining the company's clinical value proposition, representing it in investor and advisory settings, and ensuring fundraising materials communicate medical rigour clearly. This is a 12-month contract at roughly 16 hours per month, with potential to scale to one to two days per week. The position is fully remote and US-based.
The CMO will provide strategic input across clinical development, indication selection, endpoint design, and regulatory and commercialisation considerations, without taking ownership of day-to-day trial operations. Board certification in psychiatry is required.
- Refine and articulate the company's clinical strategy and value proposition in psychiatry and substance use disorders
- Represent the company as the medical and scientific lead in investor meetings, diligence processes, and advisory discussions
- Shape fundraising materials including decks, memos, and FAQs to ensure medical rigour and clear risk and benefit communication
- Provide high-level guidance on clinical development strategy covering indication selection, endpoints, and differentiation
- Expand the network of key opinion leaders, clinical partners, and advisors in psychiatry and addiction medicine
- Advise leadership on regulatory, clinical, and commercialisation considerations as the company approaches key inflection points
- Board certification in psychiatry
- Significant experience in psychiatry and substance use disorders
- Proven ability to operate as a strategic, collaborative leader without requiring a large team or extensive infrastructure
- Experience serving in a medical or scientific leadership capacity during fundraising or investor diligence processes
- Established networks with key opinion leaders and clinical partners in psychiatry or addiction medicine
- Comfortable operating in an early-stage biotech environment with a fractional time commitment
