Interim Chief Medical Officer

A Kansas-based multi-hospital healthcare system is seeking an interim Chief Medical Officer to provide clinical and administrative leadership across a network of more than 70 employed providers. The successful candidate will strengthen relationships between employed and independent physicians, oversee quality improvement initiatives, and ensure safe, effective patient care across a diverse hospital portfolio.

The interim CMO will lead the Medical Executive Committee and peer review processes, evaluate clinical performance variances, and balance clinical priorities with operational and financial sustainability. A background in Emergency Medicine or Acute Care is preferred. The role requires availability to commence within two to three weeks of acceptance, and an active or obtainable Kansas medical licence is mandatory.

• Lead and strengthen the Medical Executive Committee and peer review processes to ensure consistent clinical oversight and physician engagement
• Partner with physician leaders across a network of employed and independent providers to improve communication and alignment
• Drive improvements in quality, clinical outcomes, and patient safety by evaluating performance variances and identifying areas for improvement
• Balance clinical priorities with operational and financial sustainability across a multi-hospital portfolio
• Support provider recruitment efforts and relationship-building with medical staff
• Provide administrative and clinical leadership in partnership with executive and operational teams

• MD or DO qualification required
• Active Kansas medical licence or demonstrable ability to obtain one
• Substantial experience in medical staff leadership, peer review, and clinical governance
• Background in Emergency Medicine or Acute Care preferred
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a professional, approachable leadership style
• Availability to commence within two to three weeks of acceptance
