Fractional CFO

Sparks Group is partnering with a nationally recognised, federally funded non-profit to place an experienced CFO Consultant in a senior advisory capacity. The consultant will serve as a trusted strategic partner to the Executive Director, executive team, and Board, providing oversight of financial sustainability, risk management, forecasting, budgeting, grants, and audit processes.

The role operates at the executive and Board level, working alongside a Director of Finance and Accounting who retains responsibility for day-to-day operations. The successful candidate will translate complex financial data into clear, actionable recommendations, strengthen financial governance and internal controls, and provide strategic direction across all major financial decisions. This is a part-time fractional engagement billed at an hourly rate.

• Advise the Executive Director, executive team, and Board on financial strategy, organisational sustainability, risk, and major financial decisions.
• Lead long-range financial planning, forecasting, scenario modelling, and strategic financial analysis, including oversight of annual budgeting and reforecasting cycles.
• Serve as the senior financial advisor to the Board and relevant committees, translating financial results and trends into clear strategic recommendations.
• Provide executive oversight of audits, federal audits, IRS Form 990 filings, grant reviews, and regulatory financial reporting, including remediation of any findings.
• Strengthen financial governance, internal controls, grant and contract risk management, and enterprise risk practices across the organisation.
• Coach and provide strategic direction to the Director of Finance and Accounting.

• Ten or more years of progressively responsible financial leadership, including senior or executive-level finance and accounting experience.
• Proven expertise across financial strategy, budgeting, forecasting, financial modelling, audits, internal controls, and grants management.
• Background in a non-profit, association, federally funded organisation, or similarly complex environment with multiple funding sources and regulatory requirements.
• Demonstrated ability to assess the financial and fiduciary implications of grants, contracts, partnerships, investments, and sponsorships.
• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or a related field, plus an active CPA certification.
• Strong executive communication, advisory, and stakeholder management skills, with experience presenting to Boards and senior leadership.
