Interim Controller/CFO - Heavy Construction Industry (Weekly Travel)

Korn Ferry has partnered with a construction and services firm seeking an interim Controller/CFO for an engagement spanning 12 or more months. The role is fully on-site Monday through Friday with weekly travel required. The successful candidate will lead month-end close, oversee Percentage of Completion (POC), WIP, job costing, and project accounting, and ensure financial reporting is accurate and timely. A strong focus on internal controls, GAAP compliance, and audit support is expected.

Beyond core accounting responsibilities, this role involves partnering with operational leadership on project margins and financial analysis, working through legacy and manual systems to improve accuracy and efficiency, and providing hands-on leadership to the accounting team. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable operating at the Controller/CFO strategic level and engaging directly with accounting detail.

• Lead month-end close and deliver accurate, timely financial reporting in line with GAAP requirements.
• Oversee Percentage of Completion (POC), WIP, job costing, and project accounting processes.
• Review project financial performance and ensure operational reporting aligns with financial results.
• Strengthen internal controls, accounting processes, and overall reporting cadence.
• Partner with operational leadership on project margins, performance, and financial analysis.
• Provide hands-on leadership to the accounting team, operating effectively across both strategic and detail-level tasks.

• Extensive and recent experience in the construction industry, including heavy POC and WIP accounting.
• Strong background in job costing, month-end close, and financial reporting.
• Demonstrated experience improving accounting processes, controls, and reporting frameworks.
• Comfort working through legacy and manual systems to drive accuracy and efficiency.
• Hands-on Controller or CFO-level leadership experience with strong stakeholder communication skills.
• CPA and/or MBA preferred; significant finance leadership within construction required.
