An interim CFO opportunity supporting a university as its senior financial leader, with a primary focus on budget planning, forecasting, and long-term fiscal sustainability. Fully remote (Eastern hours) with a 9 to 12 month contract.
Insight Global is seeking an interim Chief Financial Officer to serve as the senior financial leader for a university client. The primary focus is budget planning and management, ensuring the institution maintains financial stability while supporting its academic mission and strategic objectives. The CFO will also develop creative solutions during periods of financial difficulty, identify operational efficiencies, and build a culture of fiscal responsibility across the organisation.
The position is fully remote working Eastern hours, with on-site attendance required for board meetings three to four times per year. The contract is expected to run for nine to twelve months, with compensation of $60 to $75 per hour.
- Lead the university's annual operating and capital budget development, forecasting, and financial planning processes.
- Develop strategic solutions to address financial challenges while supporting institutional goals and long-term sustainability.
- Monitor financial performance, analyse budget variances, and recommend actions to optimise resources and improve fiscal outcomes.
- Train and mentor department leaders on budgeting best practices, financial accountability, and effective resource management.
- Collaborate with executive leadership to drive data-informed decision-making and sound financial governance.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, financial regulations, internal controls, and audit requirements.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Financial Management, or a related field.
- Five to ten or more years of progressive accounting and financial management experience, including leadership responsibilities.
- Demonstrated experience leading budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning initiatives.
- Strong understanding of financial reporting, accounting principles, and budget development.
- Proven ability to communicate complex financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
- Experience developing and implementing process improvements and financial best practices.
