This interim engagement sits within a well-established investment firm in New York, covering fund accounting and management company accounting on a 3-month hybrid contract. The controller will own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close cycles, lead the accounting function through the upcoming external audit, and review financial statements, expense allocations, investor reporting, and capital activity reports produced by third-party administrators.
The role also covers accounts payable, cash management, and expense reporting, while contributing to process improvement across financial reporting and internal controls. Cross-functional collaboration with operations and investment teams is expected, along with preparation of governance materials such as Audit Committee deliverables.
- Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes for the management company and related investment entities.
- Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and GAAP-compliant financial statements.
- Lead the accounting function through the annual audit and liaise directly with external auditors.
- Review financial statements, investor reporting, and capital activity reports prepared by third-party administrators.
- Manage accounts payable, expense reporting, and cash management activities.
- Contribute to process improvement across accounting, financial reporting, and internal controls.
- 10 or more years of progressive accounting experience in a Controller, Assistant Controller, or Accounting Manager capacity.
- Background in investment management, private equity, hedge fund, venture capital, family office, or endowment environments.
- CPA preferred with strong working knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
- Demonstrated track record managing audits and coordinating with external auditors and accounting firms.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Strong communication skills and ability to manage competing priorities independently and collaboratively.
