Interim Controller

Conexus is seeking an experienced Interim Bank Controller to support the accounting leadership team of an established, publicly traded financial institution. The role is hands-on and requires deep banking accounting knowledge, with a focus on leading the financial close cycle, strengthening internal controls, and overseeing SOX compliance. The organisation has an existing SEC reporting function, so the controller can concentrate on accounting operations and team leadership.

The position is based in San Diego, with candidates from the Central Time Zone and west considered if able to attend on-site three to four days per week. A CPA designation is preferred, and Oracle ERP experience is an advantage.

• Direct monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting close processes in accordance with US GAAP, ensuring timely and accurate results.
• Oversee financial statement preparation and collaborate with the SEC reporting team on external reporting and regulatory submissions.
• Evaluate and improve accounting workflows to enhance reporting timelines, operational efficiency, and financial accuracy.
• Lead SOX compliance activities including internal control documentation, testing coordination, and remediation efforts.
• Partner with internal and external audit teams to facilitate financial reviews, year-end audits, and compliance assessments.
• Coach and manage accounting personnel while supporting executive and Board-level communications on accounting matters.

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline; CPA designation preferred.
• 10 or more years of progressive accounting and financial leadership experience.
• Banking industry experience required, ideally within a publicly traded financial institution.
• Strong knowledge of US GAAP, banking accounting practices, and financial reporting requirements.
• Demonstrated experience managing SOX compliance programmes, internal controls, and external audit coordination.
• Oracle ERP experience advantageous; exposure to SEC reporting and regulatory filings beneficial.
