Interim Assistant Controller

Tatum by Randstad is sourcing an interim Assistant Controller for a client operating within the defence and space manufacturing sector. The engagement runs for 3 to 6 months, based onsite five days per week in Modesto, CA, with the possibility of converting to a permanent hire. The client is a division of a large-scale manufacturing group, and the successful candidate will take ownership of the full accounting function for that division.

The role requires prior experience leading the accounting function at a publicly traded company, along with demonstrated knowledge of GAAP, SOX compliance, and ERP systems such as NetSuite, Sage, or Deltek. Strong supervisory capability and attention to detail are essential throughout the engagement.

• Manage the month-end close process, including review of reconciliations and journal entries
• Prepare monthly and quarterly financial statements in accordance with GAAP
• Maintain SOX documentation and ensure departmental compliance
• Oversee fixed asset accounting and manage the payroll function
• Serve as the primary contact for external auditors during audit engagements
• Partner with cross-functional teams on monthly and quarterly reporting projects, including cash flow analysis, inventory accounting, and transactional accounting

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance (required)
• CPA or MBA qualification (preferred)
• 6 or more years of month-end close experience within manufacturing or defence and space manufacturing
• Prior experience leading the month-end function at a publicly traded company (required)
• Proficiency with Sage, Deltek, NetSuite, or a comparable large ERP system (required)
• Demonstrated supervisory experience and strong attention to detail
