Fractional Financial Controller

Verrus is an established and growing executive recruitment business operating across a range of sectors, serving an international client base that spans early-stage companies through to large corporations. The fractional Financial Controller will work closely with the two founding directors, taking ownership of the company's financial operations.

The role covers the full breadth of SME finance management, including monthly management accounts, ledger reconciliation, VAT returns, payroll, HMRC compliance, fixed asset records, budgets, forecasts, and cash flow oversight. The successful candidate will also coordinate with external accountants on statutory accounts and corporation tax obligations.

• Maintain financial records and reconcile sales and purchase ledgers using Sage
• Prepare accurate monthly management accounts for the founding directors
• Submit quarterly VAT returns and ensure ongoing HMRC compliance
• Process monthly payroll, including commission and bonus structures
• Produce budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections, and track performance against them
• Liaise with external accountants on statutory accounts and corporation tax matters

• Proven experience managing finances within an SME environment
• Strong management accounting background with high attention to detail
• Sound knowledge of UK accounting principles, VAT regulations, and payroll processes
• Experience preparing budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections
• Proficiency in Sage and Microsoft Excel for financial reporting and analysis
• Strong reconciliation and problem-solving skills for identifying and resolving discrepancies
