Interim Finance Director

This interim role sits at the centre of an active growth period for a well-established, acquisitive business based in County Durham. Following a recent acquisition, the group needs an experienced Finance Director to lead financial integration, establish management reporting, and implement cost capture processes that give the business clear financial visibility.

Working directly with the Managing Director and senior leadership, the successful candidate will have genuine influence over business operations. The role also involves mentoring and developing a permanent Financial Controller, with a view to a structured handover at the end of the engagement. Experience in project-based or contract-driven environments, particularly with long-term contract accounting, is a strong advantage. The contract runs 6-12 months and is scoped to operate outside IR35.

• Lead financial integration following a recent acquisition
• Build the finance function from the ground up, including processes and reporting structures
• Implement cost capture systems and produce accurate, timely management accounts
• Provide financial visibility and strategic input to the Managing Director and senior leadership
• Mentor and develop a permanent Financial Controller hire for a structured handover
• Manage cost oversight in a project-based or contract-driven operating environment

• Proven track record as a Finance Director, ideally in an acquisitive or growth-stage business
• Experience with post-acquisition financial integration and building finance functions
• Background in project-based or long-term contract accounting environments
• Strong management reporting and cost management capabilities
• Ability to work closely with and challenge entrepreneurial senior leadership
• Eligible to operate outside IR35
