A fractional Finance Director role with a nonprofit climate research organisation, providing senior financial leadership, grant oversight, and strategic advisory support to the Executive Director on a part-time basis.
Carbon Containment Lab, an independent nonprofit spun out of Yale University in 2024, is seeking a Fractional Finance Director to strengthen and lead its financial operations. The organisation works at the intersection of science, markets, and policy to scale emerging climate solutions, supported through gifts and foundation sponsorships.
This is a hands-on leadership role combining strategic financial oversight with practical execution. The director will partner closely with the Executive Director and program teams, manage external accounting vendors, oversee audits and grant administration, and ensure financial systems and controls support organisational growth. The position suits an experienced nonprofit finance leader seeking meaningful, flexible part-time engagement.
- Serve as senior finance lead and strategic advisor to the Executive Director, including Board Treasurer support and preparation of board meeting materials.
- Oversee external finance vendors covering accounting, bookkeeping, banking, investment management, audit, and tax filings.
- Lead annual organisational budgeting and assist program teams in developing and managing project-level budgets.
- Produce monthly financial reports, cash flow forecasts, and quarterly financial updates.
- Oversee processing and execution of foundation, government, corporate, and philanthropic grants and contracts.
- Strengthen financial systems, internal controls, and operational processes to support the organisation's continued growth.
- 10 or more years of progressive finance experience, including senior roles such as CFO, Finance Director, Controller, or nonprofit finance manager.
- Demonstrated experience building or overseeing nonprofit financial operations, including restricted funding, grants management, and board reporting.
- Experience managing annual financial audits and outsourced accounting relationships.
- Strong budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning capabilities.
- Excellent analytical and communication skills with sound professional judgement.
- CPA or equivalent credential preferred; interest in climate or mission-driven organisations is a bonus.
