A part-time Executive Director to oversee operations, drive membership growth, and manage relationships across local, state, federal, and military stakeholders in the Frederick, Maryland area.
The Fort Detrick Alliance is seeking a part-time Executive Director to lead day-to-day operations and coordinate across a broad stakeholder network. Fort Detrick is Maryland's second-largest military base, home to more than 40 organisations spanning at least five federal agencies. The role requires someone comfortable working independently from a home-based environment, with in-person attendance in the Frederick, Maryland area approximately once per week.
The Executive Director will oversee administrative and financial operations, manage board communications, lead membership development efforts, coordinate grant applications, and handle marketing across digital and social channels. Experience with federal or military organisations is considered an advantage. The position is 24 or more hours per week, with potential to transition to full-time as the organisation grows.
- Manage operational decisions alongside the Executive Board and maintain financial oversight for organisational sustainability.
- Foster and maintain relationships with stakeholders including local, state, and federal government representatives and Fort Detrick leadership.
- Lead membership recruitment, manage membership lists, and conduct regular outreach to grow the Alliance's member base.
- Plan and execute all Alliance events, covering registration, site selection, vendor coordination, set-up, and follow-up.
- Prepare and submit grant applications and reports, and work to diversify funding sources.
- Manage social media, the Alliance website, newsletters, and paid digital marketing to build brand awareness and promote events.
- Demonstrated experience organising events, including speaker scheduling, vendor and sponsor coordination, and marketing.
- Experience preparing financial reports and managing nonprofit finances, including coordination with external accountants.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for board, membership, and stakeholder engagement.
- Ability to work independently in a home-based setting and manage competing priorities with minimal supervision.
- Comfortable attending local and regional networking events, including some after-hours commitments.
- Experience with federal or military organisations is a plus.
