Director of Finance and Accounting (Interim)

This interim Director of Finance and Accounting role is a part-time contract position based in North Austin, TX, operating with significant autonomy. The successful candidate will take strategic ownership of the accounting operations function, exercising independent judgement on complex matters, setting departmental priorities, and partnering closely with senior leadership and external stakeholders across treasury, tax, audit, and financial reporting.

The role spans a broad remit including cash management, AP/AR, general ledger reconciliations, regulatory compliance, budgeting and forecasting, internal controls, and process improvement initiatives. The interim leader will also be responsible for building and developing the accounting team and supporting system implementation projects.

• Direct treasury and cash management activities, including banking relationships and disbursement oversight
• Oversee AP/AR operations and ensure accurate, timely general ledger and bank reconciliations
• Lead the department budgeting process, including variance analysis and capital expenditure forecasting
• Establish and maintain internal controls over accounting operations, banking, and disbursement processes
• Partner with Treasury, Tax, Internal Audit, and external auditors on reporting and audit requests
• Identify and lead process improvement and automation initiatives across accounting operations

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA preferred
• 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership or management responsibilities
• Experience in the insurance or financial services industry strongly preferred
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and applicable statutory and regulatory accounting principles
• Proven experience with treasury functions, including cash management and bank reconciliations
• Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and develop accounting teams
