A neuroscience-focused biotech seeks a fractional CSO to lead preclinical development, IND-enabling activities, and translational medicine strategy from early research through to IND submission.
A biotechnology company focused on brain lipid biology is seeking a contract Chief Scientific Officer to provide hands-on scientific and strategic leadership across its preclinical development programme. The role spans preclinical research, nonclinical development, translational medicine, biomarker and pharmacology planning, and coordination with clinical, regulatory, and external development partners.
The CSO will establish the development strategy, milestones, and priorities, evaluate programme data, and make recommendations on progression and risk mitigation. The position involves working closely with founders, senior leadership, consultants, and external collaborators, while supporting regulatory interactions and IND submission preparation. The role is remote with travel to headquarters approximately every two months, and is expected to commence in the second week of October.
- Lead scientific and strategic direction across preclinical development through to IND submission
- Oversee translational medicine strategy, biomarker planning, and pharmacology activities
- Establish development milestones, priorities, and risk mitigation recommendations
- Coordinate with clinical, regulatory, and external development partners
- Support preparation for regulatory interactions and IND submission documentation
- Help build the infrastructure and strategic roadmap for future clinical development
- Senior leadership experience in pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, or life sciences at CSO, VP, or equivalent level
- Deep expertise in brain lipid biology or brain lipid-related therapeutics is required
- Prior experience developing or guiding an IND-enabling programme
- Experience working with founder-led biotechnology companies
- Established relationships with academic, clinical, regulatory, and industry experts in brain lipid biology and translational medicine
- Ability to commit approximately 20-30 hours per month with periodic travel to headquarters
