SmartestEnergy seeks an interim CIO for a six-month contract to lead global technology strategy, digital transformation, AI, data governance, and cyber security across an internationally expanding energy business.
Reporting to the Group CEO and serving on the Executive Leadership Team, the Interim CIO will define and execute the Group's global technology strategy in alignment with its international growth ambitions and M&A objectives. The role carries board-level accountability for enterprise technology, AI, data governance, and cyber security, including regulatory compliance, threat detection, identity management, and incident response capability.
The CIO will also oversee technology operations and service delivery, lead business continuity and disaster recovery planning, drive digital transformation initiatives, and manage relationships with strategic partners, regulators, and technology vendors across all regions.
- Define and deliver the Group's technology vision, strategy, and operating model with board-level approval
- Act as principal technology adviser to the CEO, board, and executive committee across AI, cyber security, and digital transformation
- Establish a comprehensive strategy for enterprise technology, data governance, and cyber resilience
- Ensure secure, resilient, and cost-effective delivery of technology infrastructure, applications, and services
- Lead and develop the global technology leadership team, including talent and succession planning
- Own business continuity and disaster recovery strategies, governance, and continuous improvement programmes
- Proven experience as a CIO or equivalent technology leadership role in a complex, multi-region organisation
- Deep expertise in cyber security, data governance, AI strategy, and enterprise technology management
- Demonstrated ability to advise boards and executive teams on technology strategy and digital transformation
- Experience managing external stakeholder relationships including regulators, vendors, and strategic partners
- Track record of leading technology-enabled innovation and operational resilience programmes
- Comfortable operating in a scale-up or high-growth environment with international scope
