Fractional CFO

Vessel Advisors is an accounting firm that provides tailored financial solutions to SMBs typically ranging from $5M to $100M in revenue. The firm is building a bench of independent contractor CFOs to serve clients across upcoming and recurring engagements. As a Fractional CFO, you will work part-time across multiple client engagements, providing high-level financial leadership, strategic planning, and advisory services that directly influence each client's financial health.

Candidates must be based locally or within driving distance of Irvine, CA, and should have a minimum of ten years of direct CFO experience with small to medium-sized businesses. The role requires a consultative, proactive mindset, strong comfort with cloud-based financial software, and willingness to travel onsite for client discovery assessments lasting one to two days per engagement.

• Deliver strategic financial planning, management, and advisory services across multiple SMB client engagements.
• Analyse client financials, identify risks, and develop actionable insights to inform executive decision-making.
• Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial modelling processes to support sustainable business growth.
• Provide expert guidance and due diligence support for mergers, acquisitions, and other financial transactions.
• Collaborate with client accounting teams to produce compliant financial statements and management reports.
• Implement and improve financial systems and processes to enhance reporting accuracy and operational efficiency.

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field; MBA or CPA preferred.
• Minimum ten years of experience in a CFO seat with small to medium-sized businesses.
• Demonstrated track record managing financial strategy as a CFO or senior financial consultant.
• Strong command of corporate finance principles including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
• Proficient in financial software and advanced Excel; able to adapt quickly to new tools and cloud-based platforms.
• Willingness to travel one to two days per client engagement for onsite discovery assessments and ability to work both remotely and in-office.
