An interim CFO engagement leading financial operations for a large nonprofit Community Action Agency managing approximately 50 federal, state, and private grant programmes across Connecticut.
This interim CFO role sits at the centre of a multi-entity nonprofit Community Action Agency, partnering with the CEO, Board of Directors, and senior leadership to maintain fiscal sustainability and regulatory compliance. The organisation administers roughly 50 federal, state, and private grant programmes, including AmeriCorps-funded initiatives, requiring strong knowledge of Uniform Guidance, cost allocation methodologies, and Single Audit requirements.
The successful candidate will oversee all financial operations, including accounting, budgeting, treasury, and internal controls, while maintaining a 13-week rolling cash flow forecast. They will present monthly financial statements and budget performance reports to the Board approximately twice per month, direct annual audits and tax filings, and supervise and develop the finance team. Familiarity with Connecticut state agencies and federally funded programmes is highly regarded. A CPA designation is strongly preferred, and a minimum of 10 years of senior nonprofit finance experience is required.
- Lead strategic financial planning across accounting, budgeting, forecasting, treasury, risk management, and internal controls for a multi-entity nonprofit.
- Develop and maintain a 13-week rolling cash flow forecast, delivering regular updates to executive leadership and the Office of Policy and Management.
- Oversee financial administration and compliance for federal, state, and private grant programmes, including proper cost allocation and reporting.
- Serve as fiscal lead for AmeriCorps programmes and other government-funded initiatives.
- Present monthly financial statements, cash flow analyses, and budget performance reports to the Board of Directors and finance committee.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop the finance team while directing annual audits, Single Audits, and tax filing obligations.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
- CPA designation strongly preferred.
- Minimum 10 years of progressive financial leadership, including senior-level nonprofit finance experience.
- Demonstrated experience managing federal and state grants, including compliance and cost allocation methodologies.
- Proven expertise in cash management, treasury operations, and rolling cash flow forecasting.
- Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting standards, Uniform Guidance, Single Audits, and board-level financial reporting.
