A hands-on Interim CFO role to establish and lead the finance and commercial function for the CopperString Project, a major greenfield energy infrastructure undertaking in Queensland, through its critical establishment phase.
The CopperString Project is one of Australia's most significant energy infrastructure undertakings, a large-scale transmission network connecting North and North West Queensland to the national electricity market. QIC has established a dedicated company to deliver this nationally important project and is now building the team and governance structures required for its next phases of development.
As Interim CFO, you will stand up and lead the finance and commercial function through a critical greenfield establishment phase, providing continuity and control until the permanent executive team is in place. Reporting initially to the Board and transitioning to the CEO upon appointment, you will establish financial governance, disciplined capital and cost management, and robust commercial oversight. The role also carries responsibility for the entity's technology and cyber capability during establishment, with the expectation of handing over a well-structured function to the incoming permanent CFO.
- Establish financial systems, controls, policies, reporting and delegated approvals appropriate for a greenfield special purpose vehicle.
- Support the funding and financing strategy, financial modelling and transaction readiness throughout the establishment phase.
- Deliver budgets, forecasts, cashflow management and reporting to support Board, Committee and shareholder decision-making.
- Provide commercial leadership across procurement, contracts, variations and financial commitments.
- Establish treasury, liquidity, insurance and financial risk frameworks, and maintain audit readiness.
- Oversee IT/OT and cyber capability during establishment, and structure the function for a seamless transition to the permanent CFO.
- Tertiary qualifications in Finance, Accounting, Commerce, Economics or a related discipline, with CA/CPA or equivalent strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated senior finance leadership in complex infrastructure, energy or regulated project environments.
- Proven capability establishing or stabilising finance functions in start-up, carve-out or project-based settings.
- Strong commercial acumen covering contract oversight, financial modelling and risk allocation.
- Ability to build and maintain confidence with Boards, government stakeholders, Treasury and financiers.
- Experience delivering finance functions on an interim or transitional basis in a board-governed or government-adjacent environment is desirable.
