Fractional Chief Financial Officer (Nonprofit) at HR Anew

A nationally recognised nonprofit organisation based in Northern Virginia is seeking an experienced Fractional CFO to serve as a strategic executive advisor to the CEO, board, and finance leadership. This is not a standard outsourced accounting engagement - the selected executive will shape organisational strategy while strengthening financial operations, reporting, and governance. The role begins with intensive involvement to lead a Finance Transformation Roadmap, then transitions to an ongoing strategic advisory capacity focused on stewardship and sustainability.

The position is primarily remote with periodic travel to Alexandria, Virginia for board meetings, finance committee sessions, and strategic planning activities. Availability of 10 to 20 hours per week is expected, with additional hours possible during the initial transformation phase.

• Advise the CEO, Executive Leadership Team, and Board of Directors on financial strategy and decision-making
• Lead the implementation of a Finance Transformation Roadmap across systems, processes, and reporting
• Strengthen budgeting, forecasting, cash flow planning, and scenario modelling capabilities
• Modernise board reporting, executive dashboards, and financial analytics
• Mentor and develop the Director of Finance and the broader finance team
• Evaluate revenue diversification opportunities and support annual audit and compliance activities

• CPA qualification strongly preferred
• Significant executive experience as a CFO or senior finance leader within the nonprofit sector
• Demonstrated expertise in nonprofit fund accounting, grants management, and complex funding models
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, nonprofit financial reporting, governance, and regulatory compliance
• Proven track record leading finance transformation initiatives and partnering with boards and finance committees
• Experience implementing dashboards, forecasting tools, and automation solutions; Sage Intacct experience preferred
