Interim Chief Financial Officer

Cherry Bekaert Recruiting and Staffing is partnering with a well-established real estate organisation in Washington, DC, to place an experienced interim CFO for a critical leadership transition. The successful candidate will serve as the senior financial leader, working directly with executive leadership, the Board of Directors, and external service providers to maintain operational stability and drive sound financial decision-making.

The engagement is expected to run for approximately 2-4 months with an immediate start preferred. There is potential for the role to convert to a permanent position for the right candidate. Significant on-site presence in Washington, DC is required, particularly during the early transition period. Real estate industry experience is essential, and commercial real estate backgrounds are also accepted.

• Lead finance and accounting functions throughout the executive transition period.
• Review financial results and present reporting to executive leadership and the Board of Directors.
• Own the upcoming annual budget process and lead all budgeting and forecasting activities.
• Partner with executive leadership and Board members on strategic financial matters.
• Manage relationships with outsourced accounting, tax, audit, insurance, and investment partners.
• Evaluate existing financial processes and recommend improvements to ensure operational continuity.

• Prior experience as a CFO, Controller, Director of Finance, or equivalent senior financial leadership role.
• Strong background in accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, and financial management.
• Real estate industry experience required; commercial real estate experience is acceptable.
• Demonstrated ability to present financial information to executive teams and Boards of Directors.
• Advanced Excel skills required; CPA preferred but not mandatory.
• Ability to establish credibility quickly and build effective working relationships in a transition environment.
