Fractional CFO - Nonprofit Focus

CEFO Advisors is a growing advisory firm with over 13 years of experience providing experienced financial leadership to organisations across the region. This fractional CFO role focuses on nonprofit clients of varying size and complexity, working directly with executive directors, finance committees, and boards to strengthen financial strategy and advance organisational missions.

The position requires someone based within 60 miles of Albany, NY, with the ability to commute to client sites across the Capital District. Engagements span budgeting, forecasting, fund accounting, grant compliance, audit readiness, and long-range financial planning. The role is open to part-time or full-time arrangements.

• Review financial information and prepare client-facing dashboards and assessment reports
• Advise executive directors, boards, and finance committees on financial strategy and planning
• Oversee fund accounting, including restricted and unrestricted fund management
• Guide grant budgeting, compliance, and funder reporting across multiple funding streams
• Develop and maintain long-range financial plans, cash flow strategies, and projection models
• Support audit readiness and coordinate with external auditors and CPA firms

• 15 or more years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including CFO or executive-level leadership
• Minimum five years working directly with nonprofit organisations
• Strong command of nonprofit GAAP, fund accounting, and grant compliance
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with QuickBooks, Sage, or similar ERP systems
• Ability to coach and lead accounting staff across client engagements
• Must be based within 60 miles of Albany, NY with ability to travel to client sites
