Fractional Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Hands-On, Strategic Operator

CAP3 is a non-traditional advisory firm based in Wilmington, NC, looking for a fractional CFO who wants to be genuinely embedded in client businesses rather than observing from a distance. The successful candidate will serve multiple growing companies simultaneously, working directly alongside business owners to understand operations, convert financial data into actionable guidance, and drive real decisions around hiring, pricing, expansion, and investment.

This is a hands-on role suited to someone comfortable shifting between strategic thinking and detailed execution. The CFO will own cash flow management, forecasting, and profitability planning, build meaningful KPIs, identify problems early, lead client meetings with confidence, and collaborate with CAP3's internal team to ensure strategy translates into outcomes.

• Partner directly with business owners to understand how their operations function and where financial performance can improve
• Convert financial statements into clear, actionable insights rather than standard reports
• Own cash flow, forecasting, and profitability strategy across a portfolio of clients
• Build and refine KPIs that drive measurable behaviour and results
• Advise clients on decisions relating to hiring, pricing, expansion, and investment
• Lead client meetings and collaborate with internal CAP3 teams to ensure execution aligns with strategy

• Strong financial foundation in accounting, FP&A, or a comparable advisory background
• Demonstrated experience with financial statements, forecasting, and cash flow management
• Ability to translate numbers into real-world business decisions for non-finance audiences
• Comfortable managing relationships and workstreams across multiple clients simultaneously
• Proficiency with QuickBooks Online and Excel
• Confident communicator who can lead a room and take ownership without waiting for direction
