This interim CFO role sits within a mission-driven nonprofit navigating a leadership transition. The successful candidate will take ownership of the finance function end-to-end, covering general ledger oversight, cash flow management, financial forecasting, and board-level reporting. The position requires someone who can quickly assess existing processes, stabilise operations, and implement practical short-term improvements while maintaining continuity for the finance team.
The role is primarily based onsite in Waterbury, CT, with some hybrid flexibility. Immediate or near-immediate availability is essential. The Interim CFO will liaise with state agencies, present financial information to the board, and mentor existing finance staff throughout the engagement.
- Lead the finance function during the transition period, ensuring continuity of accounting and financial reporting activities.
- Manage cash flow, liquidity, and short-term financial forecasts to support organisational stability.
- Prepare and present accurate financial reports for executive leadership, the board, and external stakeholders including state agencies.
- Review and assess the work of finance staff for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable regulations.
- Mentor and support the existing finance team, fostering professional development and a collaborative environment.
- Identify and implement short-term process improvements within finance and accounting to strengthen controls and efficiency.
- Prior experience as a CFO or in a senior CFO-level finance leadership role.
- Demonstrated background in nonprofit financial management, including fund accounting and state agency reporting.
- Strong FP&A skills, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis in complex organisations.
- Experience presenting financial information clearly to boards and non-financial audiences.
- Ability to operate in a hands-on capacity, managing both strategic direction and day-to-day finance details.
- Immediate or near-immediate availability, with comfort working onsite or in a hybrid arrangement in Waterbury, CT.
