A part-time CFO role leading financial strategy, compliance and reporting for ALT Trust, an academy trust seeking dedicated financial leadership from January 2027.
ALT Trust is appointing a permanent Chief Financial Officer from 1 January 2027, creating a distinct finance leadership role that was previously embedded within the COO position. As the Trust has grown, this separation reflects a commitment to dedicated strategic financial oversight. The role is part-time, finance-focused, and does not encompass estates, HR, ICT or health and safety responsibilities.
The CFO will be responsible for stewardship of public funds, financial planning, reporting and assurance, and ensuring that contracts and commercial arrangements are well managed and deliver value for money. The role reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer (Accounting Officer) and is based at Trust Central Team at Rush Common School, with travel to schools as required. Applicants must hold a recognised professional accountancy qualification such as ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA or equivalent, in line with the Academy Trust Handbook recommendation.
- Lead the Trust's finance function and provide strategic financial direction to the Chief Executive and Board
- Oversee financial planning, budgeting, forecasting and long-term sustainability
- Ensure robust financial reporting, compliance and assurance across the Trust
- Manage contracts and commercial arrangements to deliver value for money
- Ensure effective stewardship of public funds and adherence to regulatory requirements
- Support the Trust's growth by strengthening operational financial effectiveness
- Recognised professional accountancy qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA or equivalent)
- Experience in senior financial leadership within the public or education sector
- Strong understanding of financial compliance, reporting and governance frameworks
- Demonstrated ability to manage contracts and commercial arrangements
- Ability to work collaboratively with a Chief Executive and Board in a part-time capacity
