Interim Cost Actg/Operational Controller

A large infrastructure and construction services company requires an Interim Operational Controller to lead its operations accounting function during a period of growth and organisational transition. The engagement is anticipated to run for 2 to 4 months, with regular in-office attendance required in San Jose, CA.

The successful candidate will oversee a team of accounting leaders supporting operational business units, own revenue recognition and margin reporting, manage project accounting and enterprise cash flow forecasting, and deliver financial insights to executive leadership. The role also involves strengthening internal controls, driving automation initiatives, and supporting the development of accounting talent across the organisation.

• Lead the operations accounting function and oversee accounting leaders supporting operational business units
• Own revenue recognition, margin reporting, project accounting oversight, and enterprise-level cash flow forecasting
• Analyse operational and financial performance trends and communicate findings to executive leadership
• Partner with operations teams to review project revenue, costs, profitability, and workload projections
• Establish and strengthen accounting policies, internal controls, governance standards, and process documentation
• Drive automation initiatives and support implementation of new financial systems and technologies

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• 15 or more years of progressive accounting or finance experience, preferably in construction, engineering, manufacturing, or a project-based environment
• Expert knowledge of U.S. GAAP and revenue recognition principles for long-term contract accounting
• Demonstrated experience leading large operational accounting functions and developing accounting teams
• Experience with enterprise ERP systems, financial controls, forecasting, and executive-level financial reporting
