Fractional/Interim IT Operations Consultant

Robert Half is seeking an experienced IT operations leader for a long-term contract engagement with a growing organisation in Simi Valley, California. The consultant will partner with executive leadership to bring structure and accountability to the IT function, covering infrastructure health, team effectiveness, vendor oversight, and continuity planning. This is a hands-on advisory role suited to someone with a background as an IT Director, VP of IT, or equivalent, who can assess complex environments and translate technical findings into clear business recommendations.

The organisation operates across multiple sites with roughly 150 to 200 employees and is navigating ongoing enterprise application and integration work. Experience in ecommerce or warehouse-supported business environments is strongly preferred. The role is on-site in Simi Valley and is compensated at USD 71.25 to 82.50 per hour.

• Conduct a thorough review of networks, servers, and core systems to identify root causes of recent service disruptions
• Produce clear documentation of the current technology environment and a prioritised improvement roadmap with budgetary estimates and risk considerations
• Assess the capacity, responsibilities, and effectiveness of internal IT staff, engineers, and contractors to surface coverage gaps and bottlenecks
• Evaluate the existing contractor group and advise on retention, extension, conversion, or release based on value and cost
• Review third-party technology and telecom vendors to support renegotiation or replacement decisions
• Develop a formal business continuity and disaster recovery framework, including escalation procedures and recovery objectives

• Prior senior IT leadership experience, such as IT Director or VP of IT, or a comparable role
• Demonstrated experience assessing technical operations and team structure in organisations of approximately 150 to 200 employees across multiple locations
• Strong background in infrastructure review, environment stabilisation, and IT operations across networking, servers, and enterprise systems
• Experience developing remediation plans, continuity strategies, and operational improvement recommendations supported by cost and risk analysis
• Familiarity with vendor management, contractor evaluation, and service delivery oversight in business-critical environments
• Exposure to ERP or business system transition planning, such as NetSuite, Acumatica, or similar platforms
