Enterprise Project Manager (Interim Director of Research Computing)

The Division of IT requires an experienced leader to provide immediate stabilisation and transformational leadership during a period of significant departmental change. The successful candidate will be empowered to make organisational decisions necessary to position the department for long-term success and ensure a smooth transition to permanent leadership.

Over a 9-12 month engagement, the Interim Director will lead a comprehensive transformation initiative covering research technology infrastructure, governance, operational procedures, and staff development. Success is measured by demonstrable improvements in organisational culture, employee accountability, operational performance, customer satisfaction, and departmental readiness for permanent executive leadership. The role is hybrid with three onsite days per week, and candidates must be based in or willing to relocate to South Carolina at their own expense.

• Lead all departmental operations, research technology infrastructure, and related services
• Supervise managers, professional staff, and student staff while establishing clear performance expectations
• Drive organisational change initiatives and culture transformation efforts
• Coordinate departmental budgets and strategic resource allocation in collaboration with executive leadership
• Ensure compliance with university policies, security standards, audit requirements, and regulatory obligations
• Develop succession planning and transition documentation for incoming permanent leadership

• 8+ years leading organisational transformation, change management, and service delivery optimisation
• 8+ years managing large, complex technology projects
• 8+ years of personnel management, coaching, and performance accountability experience
• Must be a SC, NC, or GA resident, or willing to relocate to SC prior to starting at own expense
• W2 engagement only; no contract or corp-to-corp arrangements
• Preferred: experience with research cyberinfrastructure, high-performance computing, or higher education environments
