A 3-6 month interim engagement with a rural Oregon healthcare organisation, leading outpatient clinic operations, stabilising workflows, and supporting a newly unionised workforce reporting directly to the CEO.
A rural Oregon health organisation is seeking an experienced interim director to stabilise and strengthen its outpatient clinic operations over a 3-6 month engagement. The organisation runs a single rural health clinic serving approximately 8,000 annual visits across Family Medicine, FNP, OB, General Surgery, Dermatology, and Orthopedics. Clinic operations run on Cerner Community Works.
The incoming director will report directly to the CEO and lead a combined clinical and administrative team through a period of operational improvement. A key contextual factor is a newly unionised workforce currently entering negotiations, requiring a leader who can manage both day-to-day operational demands and the dynamics of a changing labour environment. The role also carries a succession development component, with an expectation to mentor an internal candidate toward a permanent leadership position.
- Stabilise clinic operations and improve staff and provider morale across the outpatient services team
- Strengthen relationships between clinical providers and administrative staff to improve day-to-day cohesion
- Identify and implement workflow improvements to increase patient access and overall visit volume
- Support financial and operational performance by working closely with the CEO and finance functions
- Navigate a newly unionised environment and participate in or prepare for initial negotiations
- Mentor and develop an internal successor candidate for the permanent director role
- Demonstrated experience leading outpatient or ambulatory clinic operations in a healthcare setting
- Familiarity with rural health environments and the operational constraints they present
- Experience managing or working within unionised workforces, ideally through a transition or negotiation period
- Proficiency with Cerner Community Works or comparable clinic management systems
- Strong people leadership capability, including coaching and developing clinical and administrative staff
- Ability to be a visible, hands-on leader while maintaining a broader strategic perspective
