An interim finance director role serving as the chief financial officer for a Massachusetts public school district, overseeing all financial operations including budgeting, payroll, procurement, and state and federal reporting.
Sharon Public Schools is seeking an interim Director of Finance to act as chief financial officer for the district, reporting directly to the Superintendent. The role carries full oversight of district financial services, including budget development, accounting, payroll, accounts payable and receivable, cash management, grant application and management, procurement compliant with Massachusetts Chapter 30B and Chapter 149, inventory control, and risk management.
The director is also responsible for preparing financial reports for state and federal agencies, advising the Superintendent on financial matters, supporting collective bargaining processes, and collaborating across departments including Human Resources, Food Services, Transportation, and Facilities. Flexible or partially remote arrangements may be considered for highly experienced candidates.
- Direct and supervise all financial services including budgeting, accounting, payroll, accounts payable and receivable, and cash management
- Maintain and report up-to-date budget balances to the Superintendent and distribute information to District Administration as appropriate
- Prepare the annual operating and capital budget in collaboration with the Superintendent and develop budget presentations for Town Boards
- Administer financial policies in accordance with Federal, State of Massachusetts, and Department of Elementary and Secondary Education regulations
- Manage and audit the purchasing and procurement process, ensuring compliance with all applicable state laws
- Collaborate cross-functionally with the Assistant Superintendent and department directors to support district-wide financial oversight
- Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred
- Massachusetts certification as a School Business Administrator
- Minimum three years of supervisory experience in a school environment
- Knowledge of procurement regulations including Chapter 30B and Chapter 149; MCPPO designation preferred
- Familiarity with state and federal grant management processes
- Advanced proficiency in MUNIS, Excel, and Google Docs
