Interim Controller

This one-year hybrid contract based in Battle Creek, MI calls for a senior finance professional to take ownership of day-to-day accounting while also delivering the strategic oversight expected at CFO level. The client is a PE-backed business navigating active growth and acquisition integration, requiring someone equally comfortable preparing board presentations and reconciling the general ledger.

The role operates with direct accountability to ownership and private equity stakeholders, covering month-end close, financial reporting, cash flow oversight, audit support, and acquisition integration. Work is performed directly in QuickBooks, with strong Excel skills required throughout.

• Lead month-end close processes including journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and financial statement preparation
• Oversee the Accounting Manager and coordinate with HR on payroll matters
• Prepare PE financial reporting, management reports, and board presentations
• Support acquisition integration across accounting processes, reporting systems, and internal controls
• Partner with ownership and PE stakeholders on forecasting, cash flow analysis, and business performance review
• Oversee AP, AR, and general ledger functions while improving accounting processes and financial visibility

• 7+ years of progressive accounting and finance leadership experience, with Controller or CFO background preferred
• Demonstrated experience with private equity reporting and board-level presentations
• Acquisition and M&A integration experience strongly preferred
• QuickBooks proficiency required; strong Excel skills essential
• Proven ability to balance strategic financial leadership with hands-on accounting execution
• Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving capabilities
