Interim Controller

CFS is seeking a hands-on interim Controller to step into a cleanup and stabilisation role within their accounting function in Troy, Ohio. The successful candidate will assess current accounting practices, define and implement GAAP-compliant processes and internal controls, and bring the organisation to a clean, well-controlled, and audit-ready position. This is a short-term engagement with potential to convert to a permanent role.

The Controller will lead day-to-day accounting operations including general ledger management, month-end close, financial reporting, and historical reconciliation remediation. A high degree of autonomy is expected, along with the ability to set clear expectations and provide direct leadership to the accounting team.

• Oversee general ledger, month-end close, and financial reporting operations
• Lead detailed account reconciliations, identifying and resolving discrepancies
• Establish, document, and enforce accounting processes and internal controls
• Drive accounting cleanup initiatives, including remediation of historical issues
• Ensure compliance with GAAP and support accurate financial statement preparation
• Lead audit readiness efforts and serve as a primary contact during audits

• Proven experience as a Controller or senior accounting leader
• Strong working knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting
• Demonstrated success in cleanup, turnaround, or process-build environments
• Highly self-directed with the ability to operate effectively with minimal guidance
• Comfortable establishing structure, accountability, and team expectations
• Detail-oriented, solutions-focused, and experienced in hands-on team leadership
