A temporary, part-time remote engagement providing maternity cover for Dollar Shave Club's General Counsel function, advising the CEO and executive team across commercial contracts, data privacy, marketing compliance, and e-commerce law.
Dollar Shave Club is seeking an Interim General Counsel to cover a period of maternity leave, expected to run approximately four months from October 2026. Reporting directly to the CEO, this part-time remote role sits within the executive team and requires commercially minded legal counsel across a broad range of functions including corporate governance, commercial contracts, advertising and marketing clearance, intellectual property, data privacy, and e-commerce and consumer protection.
The successful candidate will manage and mentor an existing legal team, oversee outside counsel relationships and associated budgets, and serve as a strategic partner to business leaders across the organisation. This is a hands-on generalist role requiring regulatory depth in privacy law (CCPA, GDPR) and experience in CPG or direct-to-consumer environments.
- Lead, mentor, and develop the internal legal team, setting priorities and allocating workload across business functions.
- Advise on corporate governance and transactional matters, including commercial contracts, vendor and supplier agreements, licensing, and leases.
- Counsel the Brand team on paid and owned media, influencer agreements, sponsorships, promotions, and broader commercial strategy.
- Support the Direct to Consumer team on e-commerce practices, subscription and auto-renewal programmes, and compliance with disclosure and cancellation requirements.
- Advise cross-functional teams on compliance with data protection laws, including CCPA, GDPR, and applicable state and federal consumer protection frameworks.
- Manage outside counsel relationships and legal budgets, ensuring cost-effective and timely legal support.
- JD with active licence to practise in at least one state bar, in good standing.
- 10 or more years of generalist legal experience, with mandatory in-house experience.
- Demonstrated expertise drafting and negotiating a broad range of commercial contracts.
- Strong working knowledge of data privacy law (CCPA, GDPR), consumer protection frameworks, retail and e-commerce law, and advertising compliance.
- Experience in consumer packaged goods and/or direct-to-consumer e-commerce strongly preferred.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex legal matters for non-legal stakeholders.
