Finance Director (Fractional)

The Carbon Containment Lab is an independent nonprofit working at the intersection of science, markets, and policy to advance practical climate solutions. Spun out of Yale University in 2024, the organisation is supported through gifts and foundation sponsorships and is seeking a Fractional Finance Director to strengthen its financial foundation as it scales.

This is a hands-on leadership role combining strategic financial oversight with day-to-day execution. The successful candidate will work closely with the Executive Director and program teams, oversee external accounting partners, manage grant administration, produce monthly reports and cash flow forecasts, and support board reporting. The position suits an experienced nonprofit finance leader seeking meaningful, flexible part-time engagement with a mission-driven organisation at the forefront of climate innovation.

• Serve as senior finance lead and strategic thought partner to the Executive Director and leadership team
• Oversee external finance vendors covering accounting, bookkeeping, banking, investment management, audit, and tax filings
• Lead annual organisational budgeting and assist program teams in developing and managing project budgets
• Produce monthly financial reports, cash flow forecasts, and quarterly board updates
• Manage the processing and execution of foundation, government, corporate, and philanthropic grants and contracts
• Strengthen financial systems, internal controls, and operational processes to support organisational growth

• 10 or more years of progressive finance experience, including leadership roles such as CFO, Finance Director, Controller, or senior nonprofit finance manager
• Demonstrated experience building or overseeing nonprofit financial operations, including restricted funding and board reporting
• Strong budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning expertise with experience managing annual financial audits
• Experience managing outsourced accounting relationships
• Excellent analytical and communication skills with sound judgement and a collaborative, hands-on approach
• CPA or equivalent credentials preferred; interest in climate or mission-driven organisations is a bonus
