A fractional CTO is needed to rebuild and secure an AI-powered platform for the built environment, establish SOC 2 compliance, and define architecture foundations for a bootstrapped Toronto-based technology company.
TekRek is partnering with a Toronto-based, bootstrapped technology company that builds AI-powered software for the built environment sector. Following a recent restructuring, the business is self-funded and focused on establishing SOC 2 compliance as a near-term priority to unlock government contract opportunities.
The incoming fractional CTO will assess and harden the existing platform architecture, rebuild core components on a clean, detached stack for IP separation, and consolidate underlying databases. The role also involves standing up SOC 2 compliance infrastructure and tooling, shipping well-documented and low-dependency code, and enabling AI-assisted development workflows. The engagement starts at an estimated two to three days per week, with scope expected to reduce as the platform stabilises.
- Review and security-assess the current platform architecture before initiating changes
- Rebuild core platform components on a new, fully detached stack for IP separation
- Consolidate and clean up underlying databases
- Establish SOC 2 compliance infrastructure and supporting tooling for the newly formed entity
- Ship well-documented, low-dependency code that avoids single-developer reliance
- Enable and support AI-assisted development workflows across the platform
- Hands-on experience with React, Node.js, TypeScript, and MongoDB
- Proven track record building software products from the ground up, not solely maintaining existing systems
- Direct experience setting up SOC 2 compliance infrastructure
- Comfortable working effectively with AI-assisted development tools
- Available part-time, initially two to three days per week with capacity to scale down over time
