An interim CTO engagement with a technology-led asset management business, leading engineering across a 4-5 month growth and evolution period. The role covers day-to-day team leadership, platform direction, and information security.
This interim CTO assignment is with a small, technically sophisticated business serving the asset management sector. The proprietary platform sits at the heart of the client proposition, built on Python and Django backends, a React frontend, and AWS as the primary cloud environment with Terraform for infrastructure automation. The role begins immediately and runs for an initial 4-5 months, requiring four days per week on-site in the City of London.
The incoming leader will work directly with the Managing Director to scale the engineering function, maintain delivery momentum, and position the team for the next phase of growth. Financial services experience is useful but not a firm requirement. Strong technology leadership and the ability to operate in a high-accountability environment are the priority.
- Lead the engineering function day to day, setting priorities and maintaining delivery across the platform.
- Provide technical leadership across architecture, engineering standards, and platform development decisions.
- Strengthen engineering documentation and explore how AI tooling can improve knowledge management and productivity.
- Lead recruitment of additional engineering hires and support career progression within the team.
- Oversee AWS platform reliability, infrastructure health, and incident management processes.
- Support information security responsibilities, including the organisation's ISO 27001 environment.
- Prior experience as an Interim CTO, VP Engineering, or equivalent senior technology leader.
- A strong software engineering background with significant hands-on experience in Python and Django environments.
- Solid AWS knowledge and familiarity with modern cloud engineering practices, including infrastructure-as-code.
- Experience leading and scaling engineering teams in smaller, product-led or entrepreneurial businesses (under 100 people).
- A track record of hiring across software engineering disciplines.
- Pragmatic understanding of engineering governance, information security, and operational risk management.
