Interim Chief Technology Officer

Berkley Hunt has been retained by a technology consultancy that builds and operates software for a portfolio of enterprise clients, including organisations in regulated industries. The business is at a pivotal growth stage and needs an interim CTO to take full ownership of cloud platform direction and day-to-day technical accountability.

The role spans defining platform roadmap and technology strategy, overseeing all live client environments for stability, security, and performance, and leading technical delivery from solution design through to launch and ongoing support. The interim CTO will also set architectural standards for automated delivery using Terraform and GitHub Actions, guide the organisation toward SOC 2 and HIPAA compliance, and serve as a trusted technical voice with clients during pre-sales and security reviews.

• Define the technology strategy and platform roadmap in line with commercial growth and client requirements.
• Take full accountability for all live client environments, ensuring stability, security, and consistent performance.
• Lead technical delivery across new client engagements from solution design through to secure launch and support.
• Set architectural standards and drive automated, repeatable delivery using Terraform and GitHub Actions.
• Establish the security and governance framework, guiding the organisation toward SOC 2, HIPAA, and similar standards.
• Represent the consultancy as the primary technical voice with clients, including in pre-sales and security review settings.

• Senior technology leadership background at CTO, VP Engineering, or Head of Platform level, including interim or fractional experience.
• Hands-on engineering track record with direct experience designing, launching, and supporting live cloud systems.
• Deep cloud expertise, ideally on GCP, with strong Linux, networking, Docker, and infrastructure-as-code skills.
• Experience managing Postgres and/or MySQL in production, with comfort debugging TypeScript, Node.js, and Python codebases.
• Security-first mindset and proven experience guiding organisations through SOC 2, HIPAA, or equivalent compliance frameworks.
• Background in consultancies, SaaS, or lean engineering environments with a strong client-facing and commercial presence.
