Transcounts, a growing outsourced accounting firm in Langley BC, seeks a Fractional Controller to oversee finance and accounting functions across a portfolio of 10-20 small and mid-sized business clients.
Transcounts is an outsourced accounting firm based in Langley, BC, specialising in bookkeeping, payroll, tax, and fractional Controller and CFO services for small and mid-sized businesses across Canada and the United States. The Fractional Controller reports to the Director of Accounting and manages a client portfolio of 10-20 businesses, ensuring their finance and accounting functions operate accurately and on time.
The role involves leading an internal delivery team, preparing customised financial reports with budgeting and forecasting, and aligning each client's technology stack with Transcounts standards. There is a defined pathway to transition into a Fractional CFO position after managing 20 or more monthly clients. The role is hybrid, based at the Langley office, with limited work-from-home flexibility after probation.
- Oversee the internal delivery team to ensure accurate and timely bookkeeping, payroll, sales tax, AP/AR, and monthly reporting across all client accounts
- Manage the client experience by reducing friction, improving communication workflows, and building trust with each client
- Prepare customised visual financial reports, including budgets and forecasts, and maintain consistent monthly delivery quality
- Review and align each client's technology stack against Transcounts standards, recommending improvements where appropriate
- Support account executives with identifying and recommending service add-ons or upgrades that genuinely benefit clients
- Progress toward the Fractional CFO role by mastering Transcounts processes and expanding the client portfolio to 20 or more monthly engagements
- CPA designation or equivalent, with a CRA Representative Account and ability to manage CRA and IRS reviews independently
- Minimum two years of experience in public practice, ideally with a fractional CFO, Controller, Big-4, or comparable firm
- Proficiency with QBO, Xero, NetSuite, and Payworks for at least two years
- Demonstrated knowledge of Canadian and US payroll compliance, including GST, sales tax, WCB, and EHT obligations
- Experience managing or working alongside teams of three or more members with clear career progression
- Ecommerce accounting experience, including Amazon, Shopify, A2X, inventory, COGS, and multi-channel operations (strongly preferred)
