A hands-on interim Controller role leading accounting and finance operations for a growing midsize organisation, managing a team of four across AP, AR, payroll, and general ledger.
This interim Controller position sits at the centre of a growing midsize organisation's finance function. The role carries full accountability for day-to-day accounting operations, monthly, quarterly, and annual close cycles, financial statement preparation, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and internal controls. The Controller will also serve as the primary liaison with external auditors, tax advisors, and banking partners.
Beyond technical execution, the role calls for a strategic business partner who can evaluate existing accounting processes, drive efficiency improvements, and support executive leadership with financial planning and analysis. The successful candidate will bring strong GAAP knowledge, a CPA designation (preferred), and at least seven years of progressive accounting leadership experience.
- Lead and develop a team of four accounting professionals across AP, AR, payroll, and general accounting.
- Oversee all day-to-day accounting operations to ensure accurate and timely financial transactions.
- Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process, including financial statement preparation and variance analysis.
- Maintain the general ledger and ensure full GAAP compliance across all reporting.
- Oversee cash flow forecasting, treasury activities, and banking relationships.
- Coordinate annual audits and lead the budgeting and forecasting cycle in partnership with department and executive leaders.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline; CPA strongly preferred.
- Seven or more years of progressive accounting and financial management experience, including team leadership.
- Prior experience in a Controller, Assistant Controller, or Accounting Manager role.
- Strong working knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, financial reporting, and budgeting.
- Advanced proficiency with ERP/accounting systems and Microsoft Excel.
- Proven ability to improve accounting processes and implement best practices in a midsize, privately held environment.
