Fractional Controller

Cherry Bekaert is seeking a Fractional Controller/CFO Consultant to support state and local government advisory engagements on a fully remote basis. The role involves delivering technical accounting guidance across financial reporting, operational challenges, and process improvement initiatives for government entities, higher education institutions, and not-for-profit organisations.

Project work spans implementation of new GASB accounting standards (including GASB 68, 75, 87, and 96), complex financial statement close processes, cash to accrual conversions, drafting Annual Comprehensive Financial Reports (ACFRs), large data set analysis, and stakeholder engagement. The position combines deep technical accounting knowledge with practical advisory skills to support transformational change across public sector clients.

• Implement new accounting standards under GASB, including standards 68, 75, 87, and 96
• Manage complex financial statement close processes including accruals, capital asset reclassification, and debt amortisation
• Draft and review Annual Comprehensive Financial Reports (ACFRs) for government clients
• Perform cash to modified accrual and full accrual conversion work
• Lead process improvement and organisational design engagements
• Conduct client interviews and stakeholder engagement to gather insights and validate financial assumptions

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting
• Minimum 4 years of relevant experience in public accounting or a public sector environment, covering audit, consulting, or accounting and finance functions
• Strong knowledge of governmental accounting standards (GASB) and audit frameworks including AICPA and Yellow Book
• Experience with state and local government financial reporting and ACFR preparation
• Ability to manipulate large data sets and validate information across multiple financial sources
• Prior experience navigating GASB standards adjustments and preparing roll forwards
