Contract controller role overseeing client accounting operations, including month-end close, GAAP-compliant financial reporting, internal controls, and audit coordination through transitional periods.
This interim controller position provides contract leadership across client accounting functions, managing daily operations from accounts payable and receivable through to general ledger activities. The role owns the month-end and year-end close process, ensures GAAP compliance, and supports clients during periods of transition or elevated workload. The engagement operates on a sporadic and fluctuating schedule, requiring adaptability to shifting client needs.
Beyond core accounting oversight, the role contributes to budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis, and communicates findings and recommendations directly to client leadership. The controller also identifies and implements process improvements to lift operational efficiency and accuracy across client teams.
- Oversee daily accounting operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger activities
- Manage month-end and year-end close processes to deliver timely, accurate financial statements
- Prepare and review financial reports, reconciliations, and supporting schedules
- Develop, implement, and monitor internal controls and accounting policies to ensure GAAP compliance
- Coordinate and support external audits and tax filing obligations
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis for client management teams
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration required; Master's degree preferred
- Five or more years of progressive accounting experience required
- Two or more years in a supervisory or management role required
- CPA designation preferred
- Experience in public accounting, professional services, or interim controller assignments preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with accounting platforms such as NetSuite, QuickBooks, Sage, or SAP preferred
