Commercial and Product Counsel (Contractor)

As Commercial and Product Counsel, you will work directly with clients as a trusted extension of their in-house legal function, handling commercial contracts, product counselling, and privacy matters. The role carries real ownership across the review process, from standardising playbooks to partnering with product and engineering teams to improve platform accuracy and speed. Up to 20 hours per week, with potential to convert to a full-time position. Note: Rate listed as $100 per hour in the source; engagement compensation notes indicate $100-$150 based on experience.

• Review and negotiate commercial contracts, advising clients on product and privacy matters across their day-to-day legal needs
• Build trusted relationships with customers by proactively communicating and treating their outcomes as your own
• Standardise recurring contract types by documenting review playbooks and quality benchmarks
• Operate internal legal tooling and partner with product and engineering teams to improve platform speed and accuracy
• Identify inefficiencies and patterns in the review process and implement improvements
• Protect turnaround commitments and service-level agreements while partnering with operations to evolve service delivery

• J.D. and active bar membership in good standing
• 5-8 years of legal practice experience, with significant exposure to technology companies and a requirement for in-house or sole counsel experience
• Expertise in commercial, product, and privacy law
• Customer-first mindset: responsive, empathetic, and focused on practical, business-oriented outcomes
• Comfort operating in fast-paced, ambiguous, high-ownership environments with competing priorities
• Interest in or experience with AI-assisted legal workflows and a strong grounding in professional responsibility and legal ethics
